Interviews aren’t easy to Ace. There are so many variables which go into a perfect interview so it’s impossible to have a 100% success rate. There are, however, two essential interview questions that you should be asking every time! These immediately put you in better standing with your prospective employer and increase your chances of getting the job you deserve.
Let’s see if this sounds familiar...
You spend hours perfecting your resume. You’ve included everything that’s relevant to the position you’re applying for. You’ve dotted every ‘i’ and crossed every ‘t’. You fill out the job application and attach your cover letter. You hit the submit button and bam! Two weeks later you have the interview. You get there, feel like you aced it and then wait for the call back. You wait and keep waiting until you realize you just didn’t make the cut.
This sucks. I’ve been there and so have many of my clients.
The two essential interview questions I’m about to share with you are tested and proven ways that will definitely increase your interview success.
SO, WHAT ARE THEY?
QUESTION 1: WHAT ASPECTS/COMPONENTS/FEATURES DID YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ABOUT MY CANDIDACY?
Read that? Read it again! This is so simple yet so compelling. Remember, at the end of the day an interview is just an interaction. Better yet, it’s an interaction with people, so the laws of psychology prevail. Employers are looking for the ideal candidate and the impression you leave needs to be that YOU are, unequivocally, the best candidate for the job. So what better way to begin the interview than by framing it in a way that compels the interviewer/s to think of you in a positive way? By doing this they are forced to conceptualize why you are a good candidate and they will likely double down on the reasons they invited you in to begin with. What is the best part? You don’t even need to sell yourself. You just ask a question and they do the work for you.
QUESTION 2: IN 6 MONTHS FROM NOW, HOW DO YOU ENVISION SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE?
This question should be asked at the end of the interview. Why? Again, you want them to envision you as the person for the job. This question enables them to picture how you could meet and exceed their expectations for the role. They actively perceive you fulfilling their needs which leaves a very desirable impression with them – assuming you haven’t blown the rest of the interview. In addition, if you get the job, you now have inside knowledge on what they expect and know how to show them they made the right choice. Always a good predictor of future promotions.
